Admission to BE and B.Arch at IOE (Tribhuvan University) constituent and affiliated colleges is through a computer-based entrance exam. Your rank decides which college and programme you can choose.

Eligibility

Who can apply

  • +2 Science (or equivalent) with at least grade C in all subjects, including physics, chemistry and mathematics, or
  • PCL in science with at least 45% aggregate, or
  • a three-year diploma in engineering with at least 45% aggregate.

Nepalese and foreign nationals can both apply. Some programmes have extra requirements, so read the notice carefully.

Preparation

A study plan that works

  1. Master the +2 syllabus firstThe questions come from the Grade 11 and 12 science course. Clear concepts beat memorised tricks.
  2. Mathematics is the biggest score differencePractise calculus, coordinate geometry, vectors and trigonometry daily. Speed comes from repetition.
  3. Use timed computer practiceBecause the exam is on a computer, practise reading and answering on a screen with a two-hour timer.
  4. Be careful with guessesWith negative marking, guess only when you can rule out at least one or two options.
  5. Review every mock testWrite down why each wrong answer was wrong. Repeat those topics the next day.

After the exam

Results, ranks and college choice

Results and the merit list are published on the entrance website. Seats in constituent campuses such as Pulchowk, Thapathali, Purwanchal (Dharan), Paschimanchal (Pokhara) and Chitwan (Rampur) are allotted by rank and preference, while affiliated colleges admit students from the same merit list. Compare fees, hostel facilities and the programmes offered before you fill your choices.
