How GPA is calculated
A GPA is a weighted average. Each subject's grade point is multiplied by its credit hours, the results are added, and the total is divided by the total credit hours. Subjects with more credits count more.
GPA = Σ (credit hours × grade point) ÷ Σ credit hours

University 4.0 scale
Semester programmes at TU, PU and KU use letter grades on a 4.0 scale: A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B- = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, and so on. The percentage bands behind each letter differ between universities and faculties, so enter the letter grade from your mark sheet rather than converting marks yourself.

How do I find CGPA?
Switch to CGPA from semesters, enter each semester's GPA and its total credits. The tool gives the credit-weighted average.
Does IOE use GPA?
IOE's older BE programmes were marked in percentage with divisions. Newer programmes and many other faculties use grade points. Always follow the rules printed on your transcript.
Worked example: one semester GPA
Say a first year engineering student has this semester result (credit hours and grades are example values; take yours from the grade sheet):

GPA = 53.4 / 15 = 3.56. If you simply averaged the six grade points you would get 21.7 / 6 = 3.62, which is wrong because the 1-credit workshop would count as much as a 3-credit mathematics course. Enter the same rows in the calculator above and it shows 3.56.
Worked example: CGPA and the GPA you need next
After four semesters with GPAs of 3.20 (18 credits), 3.45 (18), 3.10 (20) and 3.60 (17):
- Total grade points = 3.20 x 18 + 3.45 x 18 + 3.10 x 20 + 3.60 x 17 = 57.6 + 62.1 + 62.0 + 61.2 = 242.9
- Total credits = 73
- CGPA = 242.9 / 73 = 3.33
To see what you need in the remaining semesters, use: required GPA = (target CGPA x all credits - grade points so far) / remaining credits. With 72 credits left and a target of 3.50: (3.50 x 145 - 242.9) / 72 = 264.6 / 72 = 3.68. For a target of 3.00 you would need only 2.67. This helps when a scholarship, a master's admission abroad or a job notice asks for a minimum CGPA.
NEB example with theory and practical
On NEB grade sheets a subject can show theory and practical separately, each with its own credit hours and grade. If a subject had 3.75 credit hours of theory graded B+ (3.2) and 1.25 credit hours of practical graded A+ (4.0), the subject grade point is (3.75 x 3.2 + 1.25 x 4.0) / 5 = 17 / 5 = 3.4. These credit hours are only an example; use the ones printed on your own grade sheet. Common mistakes
- Averaging without credits. Always weight by credit hours, as shown in the first example.
- Using the wrong scale. NEB A is 3.6 while a university A is 4.0. Pick the matching scale in the tool.
- Converting marks to letters yourself. Universities and faculties use different percentage bands for the same letter. Copy the letter grade from the mark sheet.
- Mixing semester GPA and CGPA. In CGPA mode enter each semester's own GPA, not the running CGPA.
- Ignoring NG or F. A subject with NG or F has not been passed. Check your board or university rules on how it affects the final result before you rely on a calculated GPA.

Can I convert GPA to percentage?
There is no single formula that every board and university accepts. If an employer or a university abroad asks for a percentage, use the conversion rule printed on your transcript or request a letter from your college. Do not multiply by 25 unless your university tells you to.
Why does my calculated GPA differ slightly from the grade sheet?
Boards and universities round at different steps, for example rounding each subject point before averaging. Small differences in the second decimal place usually come from rounding.
