1 Kattha in Square Feet: Bigha, Kattha and Dhur Conversion

One bigha divided into 20 kattha with one kattha divided into 20 dhur

1 kattha is equal to 3645 square feet, or about 338.63 square metres. One kattha has 20 dhur, and 20 kattha make 1 bigha.

This is the land measuring system used across the Terai, from Jhapa to Kanchanpur. Below you will find how the numbers are built, a table that converts bigha, kattha and dhur to sq ft, m² and ropani, and a worked example.

Bigha, kattha and dhur in square feet

  • 1 bigha = 20 kattha = 72,900 sq ft
  • 1 kattha = 20 dhur = 3645 sq ft
  • 1 dhur = 182.25 sq ft

The neat way to remember this: a bigha is a square 270 ft by 270 ft (270 × 270 = 72,900). A dhur is a square 13.5 ft by 13.5 ft (13.5 × 13.5 = 182.25). A kattha is not a whole-number square, but it fits as a rectangle of 67.5 ft by 54 ft, which gives 3645 sq ft.

To change square feet into square metres, multiply by 0.09290304. So 1 kattha = 3645 × 0.09290304 = 338.63 m².

Worked example

A plot in Birgunj is listed as 2 bigha, 5 kattha and 10 dhur.

2 × 72,900 = 145,800 sq ft. 5 × 3645 = 18,225 sq ft. 10 × 182.25 = 1822.5 sq ft. Total = 165,847.5 sq ft, which is 15,407.74 m² or about 30.29 ropani.

The Jagga Napi land area converter does these steps for you in both systems. For hectares, acres or other units, the engineering unit converter helps.
