Water tank capacity in litres
Most houses in Nepal store water because municipal supply comes only a few hours a week, and many also collect tanker or rainwater. Whether you are designing an underground RCC tank or buying a plastic overhead tank, this calculator gives the capacity from its size, or the size you need from your household use.
Formulas
- Rectangular tank: Volume = length × width × water depth.
- Round (cylindrical) tank: Volume = Ï€/4 × diameter² × water depth.
- 1 m³ = 1,000 litres and 1 cft = 28.32 litres.
Example: an 8 × 6 ft tank with 5 ft of water holds 240 cft = 6.80 m³ = about 6,800 litres.
How much storage does a family need?
Domestic use in Nepali towns is often planned at 70 to 135 litres per person per day depending on the area and whether there is a flush toilet and washing machine. Multiply by the number of people and the days you want to store between supplies. The tool also suggests an inside size for a square or round RCC tank.
